Resolution

The Resolution module enables you to measure the resolution of a digital camera system. Depending on the used test chart you get the SFR (spatial frequency response) of siemens stars, of edges and information about reproduction of low contrast fine details using patches showing noise.

The modulation transfer function (MTF) provides information about resolution (detail reproduction) of a camera system and sharpness. This function can be calculated by using several types of targets like siemens stars or slanted edges. Depending on the camera sytsem, the results also contain characteristics that are affected by the image processing in the camera. E.g. the adjustment of sharpness influences the height of the MTF or the noise reduction influences the distribution of tonal values in a white noise patch. This modification is displayed as “Kurtosis”. Even though several charts can be used for the MTF calculation, we recommend the TE 253-9x, because it contains all important structures and by taking a single picture a huge variety of information is received.
